This is about God's provision for God's people.  Moreover it is a reversal of poverty.  Elisha, the prophet, instructs the widow to collect empty jugs from her neighbors.  Then fill them with whatever oil she had.  The jugs are filled and she is able to sell the oil to pay off her debt.

Couple of things are happening here:
  1. The death of her husband is crippling (No income), and she now has to raise 2 sons by herself
  2. She is in debt
  3. She has very little
  4. Her family is threatened because of this debt, her boys would be sold as slaves to make up that debt
  5. God provides.

In the midst of death and poverty.  God speaks words and deeds of hope into the life of a struggling family.

These families are always before us.  In recent weeks I have had conversations with members of families just trying to make it.  This story of the widows oil gives me hope to see that God reverses poverty and always provides for God's people.

Lord, for those in need this day, provide.
