Name it and claim it

What is hiding behind the curtain. It came as no surprise to anyone when Lance Armstrong revealed what he had been hiding all along; mainly that he used performance enhancing drugs to helps him achieve 7 tour de france champtionships.  He revealed this in the new confessional booth that is cable/network television.  Nothing wrong with that, confession is good for the soul, as they say.

What startled me was how people reacted and responded to his confession.  Granted, Oprah does not have the power to forgive sins (only God can do that), but there was an out lash at Lance for his truth telling episode.  People became more concerned about whether or not he was really contrite, was he sincere enough etc.  The other reaction came from the people who wondered why Lance was doing it now.

Scripture tells us:

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts. (1 John 1:8-10)

So this isn't really about Lance Armstrong but more about the ability to confess our sins and to reveal the things we try and hide from God and from others.  This confession takes place in our humility to be present before God, knowing that God can forgive sins...not Oprah.

We come to hear words of forgiveness as we continue to pray attention.

The reason for the public outlashing was the fact that Lance Armstrong verbally DENIED using drugs many, many times in the past. People want to believe people; they want to believe that people are inherently trying to be honest and good... but they also do not like to be duped, and that is exactly what happened. Human beings do not always live the godly quality of forgiveness when they have been repeatedly lied to. And only God knows what is truly in Lance Armstrong's heart--if he is sincerely pentitent, or if the admittance serves another purpose. Some people even commented that his confession was not entirely forthright, that he was still avoiding some questions.
