Genesis 21:1-7
Genesis 21:1-7The Message (MSG) 21 1-4

God visited Sarah exactly as he said he would; God did to Sarah what he promised: Sarah became pregnant and gave Abraham a son in his old age, and at the very time God had set. Abraham named him Isaac. When his son was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded.

5-6 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born.

Sarah said,

God has blessed me with laughter
and all who get the news will laugh with me!

7 She also said,

Whoever would have suggested to Abraham
that Sarah would one day nurse a baby!
Yet here I am! I’ve given the old man a son!

What a Kairos moment! I've gotten so used to saying that recently yet it needs explaining. The birth of Issac seems like a fitting time (wink wink) to talk about the difference between our timing (Chronos) and God's timing (Kairos). Not all Kairos moments are happy go lucky.  But Abraham and Sarah have been dealing with Kairos since God showed up in their lives.  God does that. God pulls us from living in a linear going about our days and speaks grace filled moments into our lives. Issac is a good example of a kairos moment because a) God promised to a barren couple they would have a child at an old age and through them they would become parents of many descendants and 2) what God promised is laughable and unexpected.  Sarah actually laughs-out-loud, the meaning of the name Issac (God laughs).

These grace filled moments when God speaks into our lives, kairos, help us discern better what God is saying to us (Repent) and what we are gonna do about it (believe). Those are the 2 questions that are a part of the circle above.  In the discipleship huddle that I am a part of, processing kairos for one another has created opportunities to listen more intently at how God is at work in me (in us) and how we get to participate in what God is doing.

I must say that God is up to some incredible stuff through God's people, Abraham and Sarah being two.

The thing about experiencing kairos is that God shows up at times we don't expect and waiting sucks.  Abraham and Sarah have this promised child when they are a 100 years old....LOL!...literally.

What is your kairos moment? What is God saying to you? What are you gonna do about it?

Lord in your timing, you provide awesome things that make us laugh. Continue to speak into the lives of your
